Where some folks walk on the beach and step on syringes, Sandy is bound instead to stub his toe on that long-buried vintage Coopers Pale Ale bottle that’s worth a mint.

But will he sell it to a collector or put it on a shelf in the rumpus room? It all depends on how the lotto numbers run on Wednesday night. He’s an outspoken champion of The Festival State, ceaselessly preaching SA Great from the pulpit of his taxi as he ferries around dozens of captive audiences every day. Sport, talk-back radio, politics and entertainment mix as cheerfully as a Fritz 'n' sauce sanga washed down with a Coopers Ale.

Sandy loves life, loves people, but mostly loves talking to them about his home town. He’s relentlessly up-vibe, and often too enthused in his love of Croweater life to see that some of the old icons aren’t with us any more. But then Sandy’s world is, after all, a time-warp. The Advertiser still gets mistaken for The News, and trips to the bottle shop invariably end in a search for echoes …or was that stubbies? Coopers of course!
